Want to know more?
Lesson shadowing is a mandatory part of the teaching qualification course and you will be expected to shadow our classes every morning, Monday to Friday.
This amounts to 15 hours shadowing per week with the possibility of more if you need to build up your hours. Shadowing is a necessary requirement to gain each level of snowsport instructor qualification.
All ski schools require employees to possess a recognised teaching qualification.
There are various national governing bodies who offer training and IASI (Irish Association of Snowsports Instructors) is the national association for Ireland.
An IASI level 1 qualification will enable you to work on dry slopes and snow domes across the UK and is the first stepping stone on the instructing ladder.
An IASI level 2 qualification enables you to work on snow and is recognised by most ski schools in Europe, including ours.
Personal performance coaching
After a morning of shadowing your qualified instructor, you will receive coaching in the afternoons. This amounts to 15 hours coaching per week, Monday to Friday, from our top instructors.
We will work on improving your own technique and your knowledge of the teaching modules to prepare you for the level 1 and 2 assessments.
You need to be reasonable fit and able to cope with six to seven hours of intensive skiing per day. You do not have to be a top level skier or snowboarder at the start of the course but should be prepared to ski off-piste, moguls and learn racing techniques.
We will use video analysis during the course and this footage will be discussed with you to further your snowsport development.
What about the weekends?
At weekends there will be some modules you will be expected to participate in such as the first aid course, which is included in your package.
We also work with local snowsport clubs, so it may be possible to practice gates on the GS race course, go on snowsport-touring trips (including overnight stays in a refuge), and heli-skiing. These courses will be available at extra cost and more information will be available in resort. Although taking part in any of these additional extra courses will not be obligatory, participation is recommended, especially if you are considering further training to ISIA level and beyond.
